RHGB on centOS minimal (console) ?

Hi,

I have installed a CentOS server with no GUI.
I am trying to get RHGB work on startup.

I did :
yum install rhgb

It installed rhgb and vte.

I added 'rhgb' to the line in my /boot/grub/menu.lst :
Code:
default=0
timeout=5
splashimage=(hd0,0)/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz
hiddenmenu
title CentOS (2.6.18-238.el5)
	root (hd0,0)
	kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18-238.el5 ro root=LABEL=/ quiet rhgb
	initrd /boot/initrd-2.6.18-238.el5.img
What am I doing wrong ?

What kind of graphics card do you have? If there is no kernel support for it, you probably won't be able to get a graphical boot. What do you get? (A text boot with lots of text scrolling up the screen or the plain "text mode thermometer" along the bottom?)

When I install a regular CentOS with GNOME my computer supports that.
So I guess there is no hardware problem.
BTW, I am installing this on a Windows Machine using VirtualBox.

I just want the rhgb to work with a CentOS minimal install as its for deplyment of 1000s of servers and we need to do it for branding.

VirtualBox will emulate its own graphics card. I'm not sure there is support for this framebuffer device in the kernel. From your description, it sounds like there isn't. When you install on your own machine, you are using the physical hardware, which is different (I'm guessing either Intel, nVidia, or ATI branded video chipset).

RHGB = Red Hat Graphical Boot
needs x installed and some of gnome

so if you only installed in TEXT only -- there ARE no "graphics" so NO RHGB
