i need somebody to help me to resolve this problem.
our HP xw4200 workstation have a hard disk problem. then we change the new hard disk (SCSI) 18GB capacity.
when i reinstall RHEL WS 3, the process was stop when installing package
rpmdb-redhat-3.0.20050512.i386.
the dialog box shows:
There was an error installing rpmdb-redhat-3.0.20050512. This can indicate media failure, lack of disk space, and/or hardware problems. This is a fatal error and your install will be aborted. Please verify your media and try your install again.
what i was done is:
- repartition more than 3GB each partition.
- try select minimal package to install
- try use another installation disk

I recently installed CentOS 3.9 which is a free clone of RedHat EL 3, and it uses 3.4 GB of disk space. So you probably need more than 3 GB for your installation.

actually my HDD is 19GB. i'm using automatic partitioning during installation. i was set maximum 5GB each partition (total 3 partitions include swap)
but still can't solve the problem....please guys...help me..
I read the size of your hard drive in the original post, but you said you were using "3GB each partition".

You really do not need a 5GB swap partition. Make swap 1GB or 2GB, and make "/boot" about 100MB, and use the rest for "/".

If you still have problems after that, you might have to download System Rescue CD and boot from that. Then you can run "badblocks" which will search for bad blocks on the drive.
