RHAS 4.0 2.6 kernel - How to implement LVM2 post-install
 

We have RHAS 4.0 (2.6.9.22.0.2 kernel, Dell Poweredge 2850, hardware raid) running that was setup w/out LVM2 and now we'd like to implement LVM2. Can this be accomplished post-install w/out losing what's on the drives or does this require a complete reinstallation of Linux on the server?

I've been all over looking for info on how to accomplish this but cannot find any info on this scenario.

If this IS possible, can someone post clearer instructions (or a link to them) that a fairly new Linux user can follow?

You have not provided enough information to answer the question except in the safest general terms, no it is not possible.

It will require some work before you do a re-install, create a backup of what you want/need from the current system first. Install the OS and during the installation process choose LVM. The manuals are very good for this, please review the Installation Guide and System Administration Guide;

It's a good idea to have them handy, after all they are nice to have (get all of them).

I've already reviewed the manuals you mention and have them installed both on my linux box as well as locally on my pc for easy access. Yes, they cover an install of Linux using LVM. Not sure what other info I could've supplied for you to better answer the question. I can blow away the install and redo setting up LVM in the process.

Things like your partition and hard drive information, hardware in somewhat more detail and such. Basically how is the system currently configured, without this information all one can do is guess.
