RH7.3 problems

Hello to everyone, I have severals problems with my system. The big one is the upgrade of my RH7.3 with 2.4.18-3smp kernel to 2.6.x
version.
My configuration is double Xeon2.66, 1Gb of ram, double 160Gb SATA in RAID 0 with SiI3112A controller.
First I had installed the modutils, then I started to compile the kernel. When I reboot the pc it says me
that there is not the driver for the SiI controller. What must I do to put the driver in the new kernel?
At what point of the kernel compiling way I must put the driver's files????

Another problems is the usage of the ram by one program of molecular modeling. This program put the results of
calculations in ram memory. When I delete this results the usage of the memory is the same when I don't delete
the calculation results, to make free the ram I need to exit the program.
There is a software that keep clean the ram?
This problem depends from this program or from the Linux?

Another problem is when I launch the same program above. I had correctly set the variables, the alias and the PATH but when
I launch this program it take 1 minute to be ready and I saw that the find command is running until the program is ready.
I can't understand where is the problem because in another pc this program takes 2 sec to be ready. Any ideas??
Thanks in advance.
Simon

1. You must configure the drivers that you want as modules or built in to the kernel when you 'make config' 'make menuconfig' or 'make xconfig', After that you need to 'make modules' and 'make modules_install' before 'make bzImage' and updating your bootloader.
2. I'm not too sure about this. Google.
3. What if you run the program using it's full path? (/usr/bin/yourprogram).

1. I think I need to built the dirver in the kernel otherwise the system can not see the ctrl and so the
RAID array. What are the actions those I'll make to built the driver in the kernel?
3. I have tried to run the program with its path but it is very slow...

thanks
