Angry RH7.1 install, blank screen

I'm trying to install 7.1 on a machine that had 6.1 on it previously.
I'm booting from the boot.img floppy.
No matter what options I select on boot (text, expert etc) the screen goes blank after the message "running /sbin/loader"

The CDROM accesses for about 10-20 seconds, but I can't proceed.

Any ideas how to get around this?

I can't boot from the CDROM, the @#!@$ thing swaps a bootable CDROM to drive A, and apparently this causes problems with the system.

Unhappy

use (type)
"linux ide=nodma" while the first installation screen asks u whether to upgrade or expert mode of installation.
This should solve the problem.
