RH6.2 on an older laptop
Hi,
I am attempting to install Linux on an older laptop PC to use it as a Masquerading and firewall server. I have given up with RH 7.1 as this really will not install on the low memory computer. Instead I am using RH 6.2. The installation was via nfs using a PCMCIA NIC. This all worked fine and I was able to put a small Linux system on the computer. But when I attempted to run the system it all breaks.
Lilo loads and so does the kernel. The usual stuff starts to scroll up the screen and then I get constant screens of scrolling numbers. They are in the following format [<c342cb33>] (the actual number is made up). It appears to start as the system is attempting to initalise either the hard drive or a ram disk. I am not sure which as it scrolls off the screen so fast!
The laptop is an Acernote 760c, 486 Processor, 12Mb RAM, 210Mb hard drive.
Does anyone have any idea what is happening here and how to stop it?
Thanks
