RH 8.0 and real Gnome and KDE

I don't like that Gnome and KDE are the same, it's boring and slower. Does anybody know of a way to go back to real Gnome and KDE and not Bluecurve? I like the foot on the panel, not some redhat.

i would also like to not be using bluecurve and just use gnome or kde

i guess i could go to another distro but RH8 was the first one i got my GF4 to work with XFree86 and im not gonna mess with it :)

I like RH ok, but their graphics and stuff don't please me. I use it at work so much I thought I should use it at home. Now I think I might go back to Mandrake or Suse if I can't get rid of this 'redhat we make it all the same' crap.

to make kde look like it is supposed to. open control center. go to look and feel. then to theme manager...select default. should be able to do something the same way in gnome. cya

For gnome,

In your Preferences, select Theme, and then select which ever theme you want.

Don't you uhhh just like install gnome and/or kde...i thought Bluecurve was RedHats own window manager....not a skin of gnome/kde....

Try searching around, i'm sure yous are not the first to ask this kind of questions...

BlueCurve is a theme....

RedHat 8 includes Gnome 2 and KDE 3.0.3.

I found with my installation of RH8, that I received errors when starting Gnome "Settings Daemon Not Found". I tracked this down to a missing package, "control-center". When I installed that RPM, the errors ceased and I was happy to find the "themes" settings in Preffs...

I got KDE to show the KDE logo on the corner instead of the RedHat, but outsideof that it's still RedHatized. Not the normal KDE. I have tried the Gnome thing too, with no dice. I realize bluecurve is a theme. I guess I am more interested in having Gnome and KDE how they are in other distributions, different.

I don't like what RH did to make them similar, so I will just switch back to mandrake or suse when I get a chance.

you also have to mess with styles, colors, icons, and window decoration...they all have bluecurve applied to them.
