Restoring MSSQL database backup into PSQL
I'd like to restore MSSQL database backup file into PostrgreSQL database server.
Can somebody give me some hints?
I'm doing that on a Debian system not Mandrake (sry 4 my stupid nickname) :)
I am not sure how you could do this easy. All I can think of is to download something like MSSQL Server 2005 Express and restore the database file to that. OK you need a windows box for this but from there with the Postgresql ODBC driver you should be able to run a export job to the ODBC to your postgresql server, and that will populate the database with the data that is stored on the MSSQL dump file.
It might need a little tweeking but it should be workable. Apart from that I don't think that I can think of any other way that you can do it.
Hope this helps
Where can i download that Windows box?
I searched on google but i can't find it
BTW:And is possible to run MS SQL under linux?
When I say windows box what i mean is that you need a machine with either windows 2000 or XP installed on it.
Sadly, well as far as I know MSSQL does not work under linux even if you are running something like wine.
To download MSSQL Server 2005 express go to http://www.microsoft.com/sql/edition...s/default.mspx
and you will find everything that you need to be able to use the MSSQL dump that you have.
Yes I've got installed wine 0.9.6
and i've just downloaded MS sql installer
I'm going to try it and i will inform you how it works/not works
