Restore a partition from empty space

I know there's a program to restore partitions from a drive who's partition table is deleted- what's it called?

A while back I did something with fdisk that deleted the partition table of one of my drives. Instead of running one of those programs to restore the part table, I just created new partitions instead. BUT, I left a lot of space at the end of the drive where I knew one of my important partitions lived- so I never formatted over that space. In theory, I should be able to restore partitions from that space.

I don't think I'm sunk yet, right? How can I restore a partition from empty space? I know that it's there, I haven't formatted over it.

You have to figure out where it is, then create a partition there. Then just mount it.

Just use linux fdisk to recreate the partition. Don't format it and the data should still be there.

You have to know exactly where the beginning is.

No. There's somethnig else then. I remember reading on some forum somewhere, maybe here, that there was something that will look at the drive and recreate the partitions it finds.
