Resizing Windows in X without mouse

Hi.

At the moment I'm tied to using IceWM because:

** it's the only Window Manager I've found that can Tile Windows **

- that means if you have 2 xterms on screen you can set F12 (for example) to get them arranged side my side.

What I'd like to try and do is script something that will do this when requested from any window manager.

I did manage to find a program called "Window" that was able to resize windows but it couldn't tell which virtual desktop each window is on so it wouldn't work with virtual desktops.

- how I can list what windows are currently on a given display (i.e. 127.0.0.1:0)?

- where can I find this program called "Window"? How on earth do you google for that?

- are there perhaps any other programs that could help?

- perhaps there are some python tutorials that may be relevent? If so can a stand-alone binary be produced from this?

I can't do C which is unfortunate as the C libs are there ready.

I dont know about the rest of that, but if you're looking for a program called window, try a software search site like www.freshmeat.net or www.sourceforge.net

Python has a way to produce a stand-alone executable. I think thats called "Freezing". This doesn't handle all extensions though, and I dont know if Python has the necessary low-level X libraries supported, so this may not be the way to go.
