Repair NTFS partition from linux

I got a notebook with a damaged NTFS partition. Now I am trying to fix it from a knoppix boot CD. But there is no fsck for NTFS...

Is there any tool, anywhere that can repair a NTFS partition?

I already tried all kind of tools for windows: partition magic, ERD command (from keuwyang super utl), and they couldn't help!

There is no repair tool as the ntfs write support is not yet considered safe. You would be much better booting with your windows installation disk and using chkdsk.

I tried chkdsk... could fix it!

guess then I have to reformat it...

You are a brave man, considering the NTFS driver can't even write yet.

Suggested course of action, boot from windows XP Install CD, at install utility go to RECOVERY CONSOLE, at the consoel run CHKDSK drive: /F

replace drive with letter fo drive you need to fie ie
chkdsk c: /f
