rendering through ssh
 

i have some pretty big animations i made in blender. these are so big, they can take a few weeks to render (a few weeks nonstop). what i want to do is do my modeling and animating on this machine, and then move the files downstairs to a computer in the basement and render it there. once i get the rendering done (a bunch of jpegs) i want to transfer then back to this machine for editing and compiling.

i heard ssh was the best way to go. i want to remotely control the computer downstairs because it gets tiring running up and down the stairs transfering the files and everything. i want to simply send it to that computer, remotely run the render command, and let it sit for a few weeks. how can i do this as simply as possible?

this machine is running slackware 10, and the render station is running mepis (debian). both using the 2.6 kernels, and both are attached via a LAN.

ssh is the right way..

but i think a simple telnet daemon should do the work[downstairs] .. with kde u can do local network browsing with lisa [http://docs.kde.org/en/3.3/kdenetwork/lisa/ ]

u can try vnc too.. but u can't transfer files

i need to transfer the files to and from the computer downstairs, all from this laptop upstairs.

how would i go about setting up and using ssh? i havent found any tutorials yet on google. also, ive played with the desktop sharing thing in kde, it doesnt work too well, its way too compilcated to set up. i also dont want to use anything with X because X easts up too much RAM and with 500mhz and 128 mb ram, i need all the power i can get for rendering (rendering needs a lot of power for fast results)

check to see if u dont have openssh,pure-ftpd already installed on ur comp...
