Remove "tab 0" from GNU screen

What I hate about GNU screen is that my tabs are numbered 0 -> 1 -> 2 -> 3 ...

To me, the first tab is the first tab, so it can only be tab 1, not 0. Making me hit Ctrl-a 0, at the END of the key row, to go to the FIRST tab, is utter nonsense. In fact, I think counting from zero in software is one of the most stupid ideas ever. I mean, what the hell is a 'partition 0' or a 'hard disk 0'?

Anyway.

One of these days I ran into a screenshot of a screen session that looked just like mine except there was no 0 tab, just 1, 2, 3... How do I do that?

Check 'man screen'.

You can start it or configure it to start up with various setting, including named screen sessions.

Very unhelpful reply.

You asked "how do I do that"; I gave you the answer!

You are a smart ass. Stay away from my thread. No one is forcing you to answer.

Map your keyboard different and use a screwdriver to change the layout of the numbers on there. Starting to count at 1 is just weird.

So is the keyboard layout starting at 1.

http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Screen might help you in aliassing your numbers differently for screen tho.

I've been to that page. No, I don't want to change the behavior of my keyboard just because of screen. Please go back to that school where students actually divide the number of tabs in GNU screen by 3 all the time to find out to which "cohort" they belong, and see if you learn to read this time. I've seen a screenshot of screen with tabs and there was no tab 0, that's what I want. Nothing else. Ask your teacher to read it out and explain it to you. But not the same teacher who divides stuff by 3. Another, better teacher.

Yay, 273! Yes, that is exactly what I want! I just tested, it works fine!!!

Thank you for your brief, but absolutely relevant and helpful reply. It just made everyday use of my computer a little better. Thank you!
