Remake boot disk

I am running RedHat 7.3 and Windows XP. XP is on hda and RH on hdb.

I boot from a floppy, with LILO.

I've just installed a new kernel (2.4.18-19.7) and as I understand it, I have to create a new boot floppy from the new kernel. I was looking at the Boot Disk HOWTO and am confused. The boot floppy I have now was made during the RH 7.3 install has just a few files on it and no directories. The HOWTO is telling me I have to create a filesystem, etc. Is this right?

My boot partition is hb1. My understanding is that the boot floppy points to the boot partition, where the actual kernel is.

Can anyone enlighten me?

Many thanks!!!!

boot with your old kernel. then to create a bootdisk for the new kernel, run this as root:

mkbootdisk 2.4.18-19.7

no need to format the floppy (though I recommend doing an fdformat /dev/fd0 to be sure that the floppy is free from errors).

hth.
