As in adding to or changing the configuration file, or installing a newer version?
/sbin/lilo as root will install the current settings.
You are not having a problem booting, right?
no i am having problems booting, i reinstalled the mbr for windows so that i can get to linuxquestions.org so i effectively have no lilo linux should be working perfectly, IF i can get to it i know that if i installed another version of linux i could do it but that would invovle much repartitioning of my drive...but i might do it anyways
no there isnt a rescue option on teh slack cd that i can find, i got impatient and just did the messy stuff with partitioning my hdd to give me 500 mb of ext2 and installed it again there to get a bootloader back so its all good now thanks a lot though

To do it right, you need to do something like the following:
Boot using the install CD (there's no rescue option, but you can
do it yourself).
log in as root
mount the root partition, save a copy of your existing lilo.conf
e.g.,
Code:
mount /dev/hda1 /mnt
cp /mnt/etc/lilo.conf /mnt/etc/lilo.conf.rescue
run liloconfig
Code:
/sbin/liloconfig
set up LILO. I always use expert mode and install on the MBR,
but you can probably get away with simple mode.
reboot.
copy your /etc/lilo.conf.rescue over your /etc/lilo.conf
rerun lilo.
I have a similar question. I was loading RH8 tonight in a multi boot environment and when prompted for a boot loader/manager my choices were to use Grub, LILO or none. Stupidly thinking that I could sellect none because I was using Bootmagic left me with a Linux install that can only be booted from floppy. Is there a way to make the / partition bootable so that i can add it to Bootmagic? I think that what I want is LILO to be added into the / partition?
