In Mandrake XF86config-4 will over ride XF86config. Before you edit that file you need to know your monitor's min and max specs. Go to http://xtiming.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/xtiming.pl and enter the resolution and refresh rate. It will do the rest for you. You don't need to enter the top portion.
