Refresh rate problems
Hi I am new to linux… and I am using mandrake 9.0…
I have a problem with my refresh rate… its set at 60 and I cant change it to 75 or 80. 60 hurts my eyes I also try changing the XF86 config file… Can u guys please help me , thanks |
you changed the XF86config file and it did not work?
it must mean that your moniter does not support the refresh rate at the resolution you are using decrease the resolution and try again |
check the supported frequencies for your card/moniter
|
Well i know for a fact that i can go that fare ( 75 and 80 even 85) i have it set to 85 in winxp.
my card is nvidia - geforce4 ti4200 agpX8 |
Have you installed the nvidia linux driver subnova?
|
Actually I am having problems installing them... and I have been to the nvidia Linux forum but I can’t figure it out.
I read the read me file like 100 times…. This is what I did I d/l the new drivers from the site Version: 1.0-4349 Operating System: Linux IA32 Release Date: March 31, 2003 I am running clean installation of mandrake 9.0. Then I do this: sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4349.run it does this without any errors. Now I try and edit my XF86CONFIG-4 file Change the line to read this: Driver “nvidia” Load "glx" And then deleting these lines Load “dri” Load “Glcore” Now I restart my computer and my x windows doesn’t load it gives me these error: (EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module! Now I go to the read me file… it has this problem in the Q/A section and I can’t figure out how to fix this. Any help would be helpful. I also would like to add that I have been doing a lot of reading before posting this but I cant get this to work L |
Do "modprobe nvidia" before you do "startx".
|
it says module nvidia loaded, with warnings :(
|
Thats what it should say, now do startx.
|
startX...
Freezes my computer. Ctl-Alt-BS doesn’t work And Ctl-Alt-Delete doesn’t work So I have to hit the power button. |
OK, add the following to /etc/modules.conf and reboot,
Code:
alias char-major-195 nvidia |
should i remove the line that says alias nvidia* nvidia ?
I didnt remove the line and just added what you told me. I still have the same problem. Freezes my computer. Ctl-Alt-BS doesn’t work And Ctl-Alt-Delete doesn’t work So I have to hit the power button. i will include my log files... |
Ok, the error log for XFree86 is /var/log/XFree86.0.log
|
