Refresh Problem...Monitor, Video Card or Me?

Hello,

Wondered if someone could help me out here.:)

Im trying to install redhat 7.1 on my machine. Its a 233AMD with a 16meg Creative Banshee and a CTX (CVP-5468A) monitor.

My fist problem is that I dont seem to get the "auto-probe" feature during monitor selection and the only monitor close to mine is the CVP-5458 not the 5468A. I tried that monitor with no luck and Ive also tried the "generic" one. It picks up my video card no problem. I always choose 640x480 res just incase.

After a good installation Im ready to boot into x-windows, everything checks out ok until the splash screen for windows and it looks like I have a serious refresh rate problem. Im just able to make out the mouse pointer and the redhat symbol etc.

I've tried an AST 5L, Daytek and 2 CTX moniters all with the same problem which leads me to believe its a video card problem. What am I doing wrong? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks for your time.
