Redhat Updae icon and Up2Date interaction

On my update icon, it says I have 2 updates waiting, dhclient (dhclient-3.0.1rc14-1:2) and gimp (gimp-2.0.1-5:1). but when I run Up2Date, it says that my system is up to date.

Redhat Fedora Core 2
Kernel 2.6.6-1.435
GNOME v2.6
Alert notification tool v2.1.7

System Specs:
Sony Vaio PCV-RX850
Penteum 4 2.41GHz
512 Mb DDR 2100 Memory

Well, I don't have an answer for you, but I want to get in on this thread because I'm seeing the same thing.

I removed and then re-installed the two rhn rpms (rhn-applet and rhnlib) and the two up2date rpms (up2date and up2date-gnome). I also completely removed my /etc/sysconfig/rhn directory and its contents. And yet, right after the first "check-in" for updates the icon flashed the red exclamation point and the ballon indicates there are two updates that are needed. However, when I launch up2date I'm told my system is all up to date.

Go figure. I hope someone can provide some other suggestions.

Richard Huelbig

Most likely, you have copies of your existing and old kernels and maybe you booted in an older version. Something like let's say you have 3 kernels:
1) 2.6.5-1.358
2) 2.6.6-1.427
3) 2.6.6-1.435

Maybe you've booted to kernel #2 instead of #3 which is your latest. Coz of this I think up2date would think that you still haven't updated some of your apps/modules.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks.

Not possible

ok 2 reasons why the guy who posted above me is wrong

1) I modified GRUB so it will only Show Linux Kernel 2.6.6-1.435 and MS-DOS
1.5)Unless I'm sadly mistaken, thats the latest Kernel.

2)Wanda the Gnome Fish Says
"Fedora Core release 2 (Tettnang)
Linux 2.6.6-1.435
18:28:31 up 1 day, 8:45, 3 users, load average: 1.08, 1.10, 1.11"

I'd venture to guess that the up2date server you're connecting to isn't up-2-date ( ) itself.

What happens if you find the rpms and update them manually? Does the icon now show you have all the latest packages?

Yep. Tried it.

ok, the guy who suggested manually updating packages, .... well, it dosn't work.

I fixed the problem... Run Up2Date anyway, dispite what it says... what ti did for me is, it came up with about 12 updates, instead of the original 2. I updated them, and it hasn't pestered me since.

:-D I solved my own problem.

Despite me being a :newbie: .

I've upgraded from RH9 to FC2. I liked how Red Hat Network would send me an email when there was an update, and I could login to My Red Hat Network and schedule them.

Is this service no longer available? My RHN thinks I'm still running RH9.

up2date works fine for me, when I remember to use it.

Thanks,
Dennis
