redhat problem

hello, i've just installed redhat 9, everything seems to work fine but one thing: when i shutdown/reboot, linux tells me which services and devices are being shutdown/unmounted. at a certain point, it says "INIT: no more processes left in this runlevel". after that, the computer hangs and nothing works. when i reboot by turning off/on the computer, it always mentions that filesystems havent been umounted correctly and that i has to perform a check. whats happening? how can i change that?

another thing: the item "install/remove software" doesnt work. when i click it, it tell's me that /mnt/cdrom does'nt seem to contain the right installation tree, although i have the red hat linux cd 1 inside my cdrom and everything is correctly mounted of course. how can i make this program run?

thanks a lot!

thomas
