First off, I am a noob at Linux and this is my first time installing it.
I did run the installer and everything was going well untill it said on cd 2 "cannot mount drive" then it said put CD 2 in. I put 2, then 3, both didn't work. So what I did was reboot the computer. I put in CD 1 and ran the installer but I didn't know it was taking everthing off I think.
So it did that and then said it is safe to reboot. So I did that, when I wanted to boot of the CD again it said " Failure to boot of CD-rom" and just stayed on that page.
During the installation I also got one error where it couldn't install gnome, so if I can get past this one error I will just install KDE in stead of gnome.
If someone could help I would be would be greatly appreciated.
I'm using version 9.0. I'm pretty sure the cd where verified.
Everything was going well, but it gave me one error about unable to mount something, then it said put in the CD 2, but It was already installing od CD 2. So i'm not sure what the problem was. So I just rebooted, ran it again it did some wierd stuff, and now it says failure to boot from the CD-Rom, so I can't install Redhat.
Well this is a perfect opportunity to choose a different Linux distro, one that has actually seen a security patch within the last year (Red Hat 9 was discontinued more than a year ago).
Fedora Core is a good option, and so is CentOS. There is also more noob friendly distros like Xandros and SUSE.
Anyways, just thought I would point that out in the hopes you received this message before you succeded in installing Red Hat 9
Ok, well I will think about it, its not a huge issue with security, because its not even going to be online, it just something for me to learn linux on.
And even if I did get Fedora Core, I don't think it will get past the error of booting of the CD wich I need fixed please.
I tried another Distro 1 CD, and when I put it in restarted the computer, it gave me BOOT ATAPI-CDROM: Failure....
Could not find OS.
The harddrive has nothing on it and it is a old computer 200mhx, 5gb HD lol. I think I may need a floppy Disk to give me access to the CD-ROM. But I'm not sure.
If someone could give me a link to a download, so that I could put in on a floppy disk. I think I need to get access to the CD-ROM, i tried changing the boot sequence, but that did work. I would like this to work. Please.
Ok, hopefully someone else on the forum can help me out.
Atleast I have one last resource my brother, he is crazy at linux, when I get back from my trip I'm going to talk with him. He can probly fix it, but if I could get help before I see him thats good too.
Well this is what I did, I found another empty HD in my brothers room so I stuck it in and put the boot cd in and it loaded the installer perfectly so I'm guessing I just have to do something to the other HD to get it to work.
My brother will either let me use the other HD or make me fix the small 5GB one. thanks for all you guys help those this is a great place to get help with linux, I'm sure I will be back here as I learn linux :P
