Redhat 9.0
I've just installed RedHat Linux 9 and I can't listen mp3, mpeg, wav files
I think it's a real stupid XMMS =) Who can help me? |
I had this same problem with my version of RH9. It wasn't XMMS. XMMS is a clone of Winamp. I am guessing you have the SBLive! Value card? I upgraded to the 2.6.1 kernel and compiled ALSA and the EMU10K1 driver into the kerenel. To my supprise i got sound! Then not to long after that i heard RH was going to stop support in April, so i downloaded Mandrake 9.2 yesterday. So far i like Mandrake alittle bit better that RH9.

You will see that Mandrake is NOT GOOD... |
I believe RedHat disabled support in XMMS for mp3 due to patent(?) issues. You simply have to install an rpm plugin from here .
Simply install the rpm package as root, and you should be able to play mp3s Hope this helps From Ian |

Seems this problem continues to persist in Fedora Core 1 ...

In the future you might want to start using ogg vorbis files instead. They are supposed to be better quality, relatively the same size, and (best of all) patent free. |
Yes, and my signature explain all
