Redhat 8.0 startup problem...

Hi Everyone,

I'm having a problem during the startup of Redhat 8.0 where you see the lines of text usually followed by OK in green and FAIL in red, after the fourth line of text goes by the screen gets jumbled. For instance the blank areas between the text is full of "G"s and the text looks something like Russian. Although once I get to the graphic login screen everything there is ok. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas how to fix this. My graphics card is a Trident Cyberblade i7 and I'm running a Server installation.

At a guess, something is sending some control characters to the console that cause it to become confused.

Do you know what the service its trying to start is? Try doing a step-by-step confirmation during boot to find out, or look in the /etc/rc5.d. This contains soft links to the startup scripts that are run. The "S*" scripts are run during startup and the "K*" scripts during shutdown. The number after the S or K is the sequence number: scripts are run in ascending order. So look for the 4th "S*" script and see what it is is. Remove it from /etc/rc5.d and see if that makes the problem go away. Once you have identified the problem script, investigate it in more detail.

Paul.
