RedHat 7.2 Gnome fails due to segmentation fault

I have just installed RedHat 7.2 (because I have a Dynamode A360 ADSL modem, which does not have anymore recent drivers).

The first time I ran the system I got an error message "Application 'panel' process 1476 has crashed due to a fatal error (segmentation fault)" "Visit GNOME application crash page for more information"

At first I thought my install disks were corrupt, so I did another download (from mirror.ac.uk) and reinstalled and exactly the same thing happened.

I tried to get to the GNOME crash page, but could not find anything useful. The full address was:
http://www.gnome.org/application_cra...libsver=1.2.13

Any ideas on what to do would be gratefully received.

Many thanks,
Chris

If the segmentation fault is a gnome bug then you could download and install a later version of Gnome. The best bet is probably the last release of Gnome 1.

Thats a good idea, but because Gnome does not work I have no programs menu and don't even have a command tool or terminal, so I don't know how I could install a new version.

This problem must exist for anybody who downloads RH7.2 from www.mirror.ac.uk.

My only other thought is to try a reinstallation and try the other window manager (was it kdm?).

"I have no programs menu and don't even have a command tool or terminal,"

You can get to a command line by:
<crtl> <alt> <F3>

"the other window manager (was it kdm?)"

kdm is a login manager. kde is a window manager.
