red hat 8 and xmms player

i have downloaded and installed red hat 8 from 2 different download sites. the problem i have is that i cannot use xmms player. i download my sounds from http://shoutcast.com, and it gets saved in home/ronss. when i click on it, the xmms player pops up, when i click on the play tab, nothing happens. i had the beta version on computer and had no problem. even when my computer boots and goes into the kde desktop, it does not play the music. when i tested the soundcard during install, it played music. i don,t get it.

i am rocking and rolling. thats what is so great about forums like this, i would proabaly have spent hours seeking a solution to this problem not for supporters like are on this forum.

downloaded xmmx-mp3-1.2.7.-13.p.i386.rpm from gurulabs, did a quick rpm install , that,s it. took 1 minute.

isn,t the rpm installer for red hat 8 great. one big step forward for red hat 8

see ya

I was using it today to play mp3 on Mandrake 9.0. It worked out of the box, didn't have to install a plugin. Too bad the distributions don't share the best programs so that they all work.

i had mandrake 9, what disappointed me with mandrake, was their shortage of choices for the type of icons one wants to use on the kde desktop. red hat 8 has 6 choices, went with the slick theme. i like mandrake 9 also, some nice changes.

GtkUser they used to have the mp3 plugin there by default in the beta it even had it but like what gurulabs had on their website said was "concerns over patent" they chose to take it out no biggie really easy install and its fixed

ronss: get the marble icons that UnSpawn mentioned they rock I am using them now :-) Yea i like the rpm installer makes it simpler for idiots like myself no way for me to screw up the install of it either if you already have a newer version it even tells you that you have a newer version!

here they are http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=1578
