Hi have installed Redhat 5:hattip: in WMWare. Problem is there is no sufficient space in ROOT directory so that I am unable to Install anything in root for which memory exceeds. But /home directory is free of 40GB. Is there any possibilty to arange this memory available from home to root.

Or Else just let me know can I install oracle 11i to home directory rather than root. In installation instruction it is said that we should start installation from root. :hattip:

Well, aside from the fact that you typically want to break out the mounts and volumes per the Oracle docs (I'm assuming this is just for casual use?) you can just create links for any given directories.

Thank u friend, But may I know what causes the memory to be least distributed in root directory(1.5 GB free) and maximum distribution in home directory (40 GB free ).

I have 1.5 GB free in root directory and 40GB in home directory. Has it been happened in my case alone or for everyone it happens the same.

Because previously when I had installed REDHAT 5 there was enough free space in root directory.:hattip:

During the install process, the system prompts you for this allocation. The default is to keep the very minimum required in / (since it is only supposed to be used for a few tiny things) and the majority wherever you wish to install applications and maintain data.

Typically this will be carved up into /usr, /var, /opt, /home, /tmp, etc depending on the standards for the site for that type of system.

There are lots of permutations and thoughts behind this, few of which apply in a hobby/toy system.
