Recovering Linux config after disk corruption and new motherboard

Hi,

I need some help. My motherboard died on my Linux box a couple of weeks ago. Before it died it was randomly locking up the processor, and in the process created quite a lot of disk corruption .I've now installed a new, slightly different motherboard and now want to recover my linux set-up, preferably without losing my personal /home stuff.

Linux boots with errors, mostly indicating corrupted files. Certain functions e.g. X don't work. My question is what is the best way to get the box back in a healthy state.

My distro is SuSE Professional 8.0. Do I boot from the DVD and reinstall, or is there some way to force YaST to re-examine the hardware and re-write all the appropriate configuration files.

TIA,
hb
