Recording with Audacity sounding off?

I am using Audacity 2.0.1
I need to record through my sound card at times. I am having trouble with this: today I recorded a program, 48 minutes. I recorded it about 51 minutes. The sound was off and it sounded slow. What would be the cause of this and how to fix it?

I cannot hazard a guess as to why your audio seems to lag, but Audacity has the capability to increase the speed of your audio: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Change_Speed
