Recording video with Cheese

I am experiencing problems when attempting to record a video using the Cheese program. I can take pictures no problem, I can even add the effects that Cheese offers, however when I try and record a video the program will only record a few frames, about one every three seconds and no sound. The display also goes blank and then shows a frame now and again during recording, but when I turn the recording off it goes back to a live view.

I looked in Cheese's FAQ and it suggested that I check the gstreamer properties to make sure that my graphics card was dealing with these and not my motherboard. However that was set up fine, so it made no difference.

I did notice that when I open Cheese using the command line I get the following message twice:

Quote:

libv4l2: error converting / decoding frame data: v4l-convert: error parsing JPEG header: Not a JPG file ?
When I try and record something the message appears in the command line again. I have double checked all the gstreamer-properties and tested these, they all appear fine, however I must be missing something.

My webcam is the Creative Live! optia pro, this does appear to be working as Skype and sound recorder work fine on my OS: Fedora 10 & Ubuntu 9.04.

Please help as this has been going on for 3 months.

hi

according to this search you may have a uvcvideo cam
http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/showdev.php?id=4305

check the output of lsmod | grep uvcvideo and if you see it install a different cam recorder called

guvcview

its excellent for snapshots and recording....and you can play with the video and sound devices until it works

Is this the "Cheese program" to which you refer? -- providing a link would make your post more accessible & useful to everyone.
