Recording cable tv with pcHDTV card

Hi all,

I've been tinkering for a few days now, but I can't find any programs that will record tv correctly. I'm able to watch cable tv just fine using the pcHDTV-3000 card I have with tvtime, so I know that both the card and the cable hookup are working fine.

I've tried using MythTV, but I think there must be some kind of conflict with using a pcHDTV card for cable. With MythTV I can only get a picture if I set the card up as a standard v4l card, but the picture is of poor quality and the program generally crashes momentarily.

I've also tried using mplayer to record/view tv, but I had no luck. I did a fair share of reading in order to learn how to do this since mplayer is one monster of a program, but I was ultimately unsuccessful. However, I can't 100% be sure I was executing the proper commands as they can get pretty complex.

If anyone has any favorite programs that they could recommend, or maybe give me a few pointers using any of the programs mentioned here it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Matt

Ok, I've had a mild success using mplayer. I can view the tv using this command:

mplayer tv:// -tv driver=v4l2:device=/dev/video0:input=0:normid=0:channel=39:alsa:
chanlist=us-cableutfmt=yuy2 -vo x11 -vc rawyuy2

The only problem with this is that the colors are all messed up. I've experimented with a few filters via the -vf flag, but nothing has worked very well.

Does anyone know how to properly adjust the color?

Edit: I noticed there's a smilie that gets put in there automatically. The line should read "...us-cable : outfmt..."

Thanks,
Matt
