realplayer10/helix = what the !@#@
I have been happily using a combination of totem/xine and mplayer to play and stream quicktime, real format.windowzmedia 8&9 etc...for months.I wanted to give this a go because i thought helix was a good project.I am utterly convinced that this is a pile of @#%$, and please people use mplayer&totem instead,of course unless youre a newb...just a heads up,,and i can explain further if its vital to do so..

Erm, the mozilla plugin's quite useful. The bbc radio site works very well indeed (as does Radio Nova).
What's the problem? Dave |
There is no problem,,its a pile of crap.I get better performance using mplayer, and have mozplugger working quite nicely also for my embedded web page player needs.Hey,,go to real.com and try to stream a real movie preview real quick.........I bet youre wondering why it wont sream???

OK.
Don't use it then. Works OK for web embedded stuff for me. Xine (I don't like MPlayer) doesn't have a browser plugin, so I'm quite enjoying Helix (that said, the only thing I'm using it for is the browser plugin). It *is* a shame that there isn't more codecs for Real/Helix though... Dave |
It is a shame indeed..oh,,,,have you used mozplugger yet?I always try to turn people on to this fine piece of software,it allows you to define what "player" you want to handle embedded video, audio, and such with mozilla,mozilla-firefox,and galeon. But hey, have you went to real.com and can stream a movie preivew?I really need to know,,be "honest"hehe....i wont attack you or anything,,,lol...

Point taken. Helix appears to suck quite badly at streaming video.
MozPlugger's quite cool though. Dave |
It's possible RP10 has some incompatibility issue with Athlon 64 that shows slow performance.
Otherwise, it's working great as far as I know from many people. |

Yes, I installed "MozPlugger" right before the Real/Helix was announced. It has performed perfectly and I see no reason to change it. |

Helix *appears* to be throttling its connection for some reason. It does work quite well for audio though. Dave |
