Real Media files with W32 codecs?

Using Kaffeine, with the w32-codecs pack installed, I can play most video formats, though not .rm and .ram files.

Searching, some indicate that Real Media codecs is part of the W32-codecs pack, whilst others seem say to install Real Player itself to get the codecs.

Could someone clarify if these codecs are part of the w32 install, and if so, what might I be missing (a symlink somewhere, perhaps?) in order to get real media playing in Kaffeine.

... or do I really have to install the full Real Player?

(Please note that I am not talking about browser plug-ins, but simple local playback from HDD.)

Thanks for that... though as in 'you can only play them in Real Player' or 'install Real Player to get the codecs and then watch in Kaffeine'?

Sorry, I just realised I should have asked about Quicktime too while I was at it... What goes with .mov files?

I'm pretty sure you need realplayer to play real media files, I read somewhere you didn't need quicktime to view .mov files on linux

You shouldn't have any problems with .mov as long as you have w32-codecs installed.
