Ready-Made PHP program that lets me upload and access files on the web?
Hey I'm looking for a ready-made PHP/SQL program (FOSS preferred) that lets me upload files to my Ubuntu server, and see and download them at will. Kind of like hosting my own "Yahoo! Briefcase".
By "ready-made PHP program", I am talking about things like phpBB and Gallery2. Those programs that you run from the web that you host yourself.
Is there something like this out there or do I have to write the script myself?
There are lots, what to use depends on what do you exactly want. It's not easy to answer without knowing.
Some scripts will require the usage of ftp or ssh, some will require mysql to handle the users, some might require additional stuff, php modules, etc. etc. etc. The most basic ones will probably just need php and ftp. You can take a look here:
That would definitely be easiest, but the primary purpose of this is so I can transfer schoolwork to and from assorted classrooms, but the genius that runs the computer labs says that "Using FTP can cause severe damage to the system", so they have blocked every port except for 80. I cannot use SFTP (22), I cannot use FTP (21), I cannot even use my other server on port 8000. EVERYTHING is blocked. Very annoying.
Are there no free/open-source online file managers?
What I essentially want is to be able to view a folder (lets say /var/www/stuff) in a web browser. After being prompted for a password, I can add and remove files from that folder and download them, because my school blocks all ports except 80.

You can Google "PHP File Managers" or "PHP Document Managers"
There are several very good document management programs that work with Joomla! I recommmend DOCman and Briefcase Factory which is equivalent to Yahoo's Briefcase
