Re-installing GRUB on my messed up setup.

Firstly, heres my messed up setup:

Originally I had my Windows XP drive as my primary. I then added another drive as secondary and installed Fedora 4.

This installed GRUB somewhere on my Linux drive, and changed the MBR of my Windows drive to point to it. This meant that if EITHER hard drive was removed, my computer would not boot.

After some issues with my motherboard I had to "fixmbr" my Windows (primary) drive, so that now Windows boots straight with no boot menu and I have no access to Linux.

SO my question is, how do I get a boot loader back?... preferably the Windows boot loader, so I dont get the above boot-loader dependency issue.

I've read a guide on how to install linux and use the windows boot loader using boot disks, etc.. but it doesnt explain what to do if you already have linux installed and want to get it back. Oh yeah, and I dont have a floppy drive.

Please help! Cheers,

You can put your Fedora CD into the drive and when the boot promt appears type linux rescue or press F5. In the rescue shell type
Code:
grub install /dev/hda
That should fix your problem

No floppy, shame shame shame only joking

see my sig for tips on how to use grub as a bootloader or use ntldr as a bootloader.
Unfornately you umm will have to look at creating a grub cdr if you for what ever reason will not put grub back into mbr even if you then overwrite it once you have the ntldr files

anyhow have a read you know how to repair back to ndldr so the choice is yours.

(2) a messier idea is to disable the primary drive in your mbr......confirm you have linux on the second drive.....put grub into that second drive and if you want to boot to MS you will have to play with your bios back and forth....messy but you may like it?

dinolinux's method is the best solution as less can go wrong with it. Quite why you have that strange issue where you need both, I don't know: I've never heard of it before.
