ratpoison questions
I have two questions concerning ratpoison. I love the way it manages the windows, and I just need to figure out a couple of ways to do things. Does anyone know a way I can check how much battery (on my laptop) is left by using the terminal? Also, I need to figure out how to get RP to be my default windows manager. Whenever I use switchdesk to switch between desktop environments, it always saves the new one as my default. But since ratpoison isn't a desktop environment, I'm not sure what to do. I'm using Fedora Core 3.
Anyone have answers? |
no idea about the desktop stuff, but yuor battery *should* have an acpi entry in /proc/. i can't remember where it normally goes, but it'll normaly be called "battery" so try "find /proc | grep battery" and that should give you a totally cat-able file containing charge levels etc...

Thanks! I tried to do what you said, and there was a directory in the acpi directory called battery. Unfortunately it had nothing in it, even when I pulled out the AC adapter.
Any ideas? |
not really, i'm not a big laptop user... are you used to seeing this data in other desktop environments?
|
Well, in Gnome of course there's the battery icon that you can add to the panel. I haven't used KDE enough to worry about it. XFCE has a plugin. I'm just wondering where they're getting the data from really, so I can check it myself or set up some script to view it or something.
