Random Logouts-X server crashes?

Hello, I'm using Fedora Core 2. Today I left the comp for a few hours but left FireFox running, along with a Bittorrent client. When I came back, I found that the system had randomly logged me out; all I got was the login screen. I checked /var/log/messages, and found this:

Dec 27 14:14:35 leartes kernel: atkbd.c: Use 'setkeycodes e059 <keycode>' to make it known.
Dec 27 16:20:56 leartes gdm[2329]: gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error - Restarting :0
Dec 27 16:20:56 leartes gdm(pam_unix)[2329]: session closed for user ben
Dec 27 16:20:56 leartes gconfd (ben-2422): Received signal 15, shutting down cleanly
Dec 27 16:20:56 leartes gconfd (ben-2422): Exiting
Dec 27 16:20:57 leartes gpm[1932]: *** info [mice.c(1766)]:
Dec 27 16:20:57 leartes gpm[1932]: imps2: Auto-detected intellimouse PS/2
Dec 27 16:48:26 leartes kernel: atkbd.c: Unknown key released (translated set 2, code 0x81 on isa0060/serio0).
Dec 27 16:48:26 leartes kernel: atkbd.c: Use 'setkeycodes e001 <keycode>' to make it known.
Dec 27 16:48:29 leartes gdm(pam_unix)[23425]: session opened for user ben by (uid=0)
Dec 27 16:48:29 leartes gconfd (ben-23522): starting (version 2.6.0), pid 23522 user 'ben'
Dec 27 16:48:29 leartes gconfd (ben-23522): Resolved address "xml:readonly:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.mandatory" to a read-only config source at position 0

Judging by the Fatal X error line, this is obviously an X server crash. This has happened before. Anyone else experienced this? What can be done about it? So far it only seems to happen when I leave the computer for a while.

Thanks in advance.

I'm having a similar problem.
X keeps restarting and logs the above message.
The problem started after recompiling all kernel modules (make modules then make modules_install from the kernel source dir)
Sorry cant help yet

check
/var/log/Xorg.0.log
(that's where it is on my Fedora Core 2 system)
Maybe you'll find something

Have fixed my problem:
While examining /var/log/Xorg.0.log I found:

Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'

After some googling I found a post that said that this could be caused by disk space shortage.
df showed 100% disk usage...
So I made some space. Then I had to restart the xfs (X font server) service so that the font gets loaded.

X work fine now.

i'm usin xfree (kind of the same code as xorg) with gcc 3.4.1
x was very unstable and kept crashing like that until i recmpiled it without any of the default optimizations -- now it works rock solid
must be a gcc 3.4 thing
