Random lock-ups in Suse10.3

Hi I have a very frustrating issue with Opensuse10.3 every couple of hours it just freezes completely and has to be reset. I have looked through the logs there is to indicate that an error had occurred or anything strange really. I have read on a few forums that this is sometimes caused by xserver which brings me to my second problem. I am trying to install the nvidia driver through yast but whenever whenever i try and the repo i get error:

Error code: Connection Failed
Error Message: couldn't resolve host "download.nvidia.com".

This happens with most other repos as well.

If i do an nslookup the hostname is resolved and I can also navigate to it in my browser.

Do you have any suggestion please I have tried everything I know how

Just exactly the same happened to me with the 10.3,it's due to something in the kernel of that distro or somewhere else thar is not compatible with some hardware..the only solution was moving to another distro, now i use Opensuse 11.1 with just the same hardware and it works without any problems so i suggest you to format the hd and install the 11.1 on it as a new installation,no upgrade.

Good luck !!

Could be your HDD

Hi, it could also be a hard drive failure issue. I would check it and your ram, you can get a drive fitness test from www.seagate.com
This will test all drives no matter who made it.

Is there really no other way. How would I trace if it is having a problem with the hardware. as there is nothing in the logs
