Random keyboard lock-ups when using simpler WMs

Hi folks!

This has been annoying every bit of me for the some time now.

When I use OpenBox or EvilWM (the latter is my favourite), I get random keyboard lockups, which means that my keyboard stops functioning completely. In the meantime *everything* else is running perfectly. My mouse functions, all applications seem to be responsive. The WM seems to be fine too (focusing is the way it should be).

The thing is, that since EvilWM is a keyboard-based WM, it is nearly impossible to do anything after the lockup. I can't switch virtual desktops and I am not able to go to a tty. So I'm pretty much forced to reach for the power button on my box.

The even more weird aspect of this, is that more sophisticated WMs/Desktops (ones I've tried: KDE, Gnome, bare Beryl session), everything is perfectly fine. No glitches AT ALL...

Does anyone have a clue on what this might be?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Specs:
*NVidia card, newest (beta) driver
*KUbuntu 7.04 (I have not spotted this on any other distro I have, which for the moment is: Debian sid, latest Slack and Arch)

Can you get to a console by ssh’ing into your box and then using chvt to change tty?
