RAM shortage - X server bug?

Dear All,

I'm running ninan (a java news downloader), and I've noticed something WEIRD: I use Mozilla to monitor the status of ninan (ninan sets a local http server), and if I leave mozilla open the X server started getting bigger and bigger (last time it blocked my system after growing larger than 750MB).

Since I have the "backingstore" option in the X server (xorg 2.6.13), and mozilla is continuously reloading the page, I believe that X is backing up each "reload" of mozilla until it bloats the system.

Is this possible? I've been running the system continuously for 4 days (using mozilla to check on ninan briefly and sparingly), and X has remained at 50 MB. Before, in some hours, X was over 500 MB.

BTW, this problem did not happen when I was running SuSE 9.3 (I'm now using 10.1).

Thanks for any ideas / comments you may have.

Before closing Mozilla (after several hours of continuous operation):

total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 1000 990 9 0 25 121
-/+ buffers/cache: 843 156
Swap: 5122 351 4770

X was 450 MB and growing (the computer was not blocked -- yet). After closing Mozilla, it went down to 350 MB (still too much), probably due to Firefox
Will close all the windows (but not the progs that are running in the background) and see what happens...

No good. X went down to 330 MB, but still had to kill it to get a normal sized (50 MB) X server!!!!

Why does this happen?
