It took everything I had to not put Help!! in the description as I've really screwed myself here.

I have a RAID 1 LVM partition and I one disk died, I thought it would be no problem since it's raid 1 I could get the data from the disk that was still good but I'm not able to access anything. Now after re-installing fedora it looks like my old Volgroup is no longer configured, even though I do have the /etc/lvm/backup/LogVolume00 file that contains all the information. No matter what I try now I get the following type of error:

# vgcfgrestore -n VolGroup00-LogVol00 /dev/VolGroup00
Couldn't find device with uuid 'fAlxgd-r0R9-q45E-n150-7Gxq-rsap-zRr4RP'.
Couldn't find all physical volumes for volume group VolGroup00.
Restore failed.

My original failed drive is actually limping along now so in theory I should be able to re-mount the Volume Group and pull the data off as I haven't formatted the drives. Is there any way I can re-build the Volume Group information around the existing drives without overwriting the data?

erm. linux software raid1 is just mirroring, so each of the 2 drives that run as raid1 as say /dev/md0 contains ALL the information and should work alone...

just to make things clear:

you created a software raid1 with 2 disk and used the raid-device as ONE physical volume for your volume group ?

what does 'cat /proc/mdstat' show ?

is the raid1 subsystem running at all ?

if NOT lvm won't work for sure.

You've kind of lost me here. Did you have a failure on one drive, and then decide to wipe out the good drive? If so, then yes, you've buggered the cat.

You say that your failed drive is limping along. You also say that you reinstalled Fedora on the good drive. So can we assume that the good drive has nothing on it of any importance? IF that's the case, then can I suggest that you boot from a liveCD, and then VERY CAREFULLY use "dd" to do a bitwise copy from your ailing drive to a good drive. If you can get that to work, then you have a good chance of getting things back in good order.

OR, are you saying that the RAID1 is not the boot drive?
