Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

I would be grateful if someone could explain the discrepancy between the displayed contents of what ought to be the same file system as shown on two machines.
Machine Bach runs Mandriva 2011.0 and has a raid 5 array that I use to keep a copy of, among others, a directory "accounts" on machine Mozart. The raid array is mounted and healthy, and the first three levels are listed below.
Machine Mozart, running Mandriva 2010.2, uses rsync (actually grsync) hourly to transfer files from its "accounts" directory to the raid array on Bach. I know that what is in Mozart/accounts matches what is shown in Mozart/mnt/raid/accounts - what I can't understand is why the listing doesn't match Bach/mnt/raid/accounts, as shown in the secont part of the list. It is as though the listing on Bach has been frozen in time.
