Radio on Linux

Hi there,
probably a daft question, but with my broadband connection one of the advantages I find is the radio streaming.
Now most radio stations that are available via the internet seem to make use of Windows Media Player one way or another. Is there anything that can be done to bypass that, so I can listen to my radio-stations via Linux, rather than via another PC that is running Winblows???:Pengy:

Your help v much appreciated

Thats a very frustrating issue, I listen to internet radio stations using streamtuner and rhythmbox. You can add your own channels to rhythmbox, but I've never tried it on streamtuner.

If the radio is streamed using a ram (realplayer) file, I use xine (http://xinehq.de/index.php/releases) to listen to it.

The bbc use this format but for some reason try to hide the mrl and force us all to use windoze.

You dont have to use Windows to listen to the bbc radio channels. I use RealPlayer for Linux and it works absolutely fine.

I agree, I have got RealPlayer working fine as well.
Having said that, went on a Dutch Linux forum, and there they claim they can listen to their (my) favourite stations with Xine, plus it gives a description on how to set it up if needed.
So I have several options to go. I do know that RealPlayer does not work on those stations though. :(

Hello!

I use XMMS for listening to streaming radio. I can't remember if it can handle the realplayer-files as well, but at least Shoutcast-stations start to play by simply clicking on the "tune in" -button after I setup my browser to use XMMS with .pls-files

Razze
