Post Radeon8500 3D support

Well, i have downloaded and installed XFree4.2.0 and i have now a working 2D support.

The problem is that i use Wine and some games needs 3D support, so i'm here to ask you if there is some 3D drivers for R8500 in Linux, or if i must wait the new release of XFree86.

Thanks to all!

You have to wait for ATI to either release enough information for the Xfree developers to add 3d support or release a 3d driver themselves.

Unhappy Heelp! Radeon 8500 2D Support!

I just installed Redhat 7.3 using the Workstation install hoping that, Yes! finally, my ATI Radeon 8500 /64mb would finally work for me in Linux. But no, it doesn't. RedHat automatically detected that I had the 8500 and everything. When I start XFree86 4.2.0 it simply doesn't work. I can't get into X. I get the same old "No Screens" message. So right now I'm stuck using Links text browser. Any help would be appreciated.

-----
Update, after being a moron, I finally figured it out.
I had to use the following line under my monitor configuration:
Option "CrtScreen"

That's why I was always getting the message "No Screens Found".

Hopefully others will benefit from this post.

Peace.

R8500 with RH7.3

Ok, no problem here: please, next time select the custom installation, so you will have total control under video options.

Now this is my solution in your case: if you cannot launch the X-Server, after the loading you are in the console, right?
Ok, so write:

XFree86 -configure

Please note that Linux is case sensitive!!!
After this you will find a file named XF86Config in your home directory, or in the directory from where you launched the command.
Now, rename it in XF86Config-4 (note the upper case letters!) and copy it in /etc/X11; if linux asks you about overwrite say yes.

Now launch the X-Server with: startx

Good luck!
