Question Radeon Drivers for X

I've got redhat 8 and Gnome running ok at the moment. However, my graphical output is to be precise.. CRAP !!

So i downloaded the RMP from ATI for the latest Linux driver, i installed the package, and rebooted the machine. However i dont seem to gain any performance??? Its a Radeon 8500 128DDR btw.

Is there somthing i should know?

I suspect the X config files need updating to use the new driver, but i have no idea how to do this, would someone help?

I'm dual booting with XP / RH8 (Gnome)
HDA1 is WinXP FAT32
HDA2 is root EXT3
and HDA3 is Swap

Thats my config.

Please try to go into detail, last time i messed with X config files i had to reinstall the lot lol.

Thanks in advance....

Ade

Me too, would you be so kind as to post your XF86Config file here?

Ok, first we make a backup...

Post your XF86Config file and we'll start from there.

might this mean anything?

Section "Device"
# DRI is not currently supported on Radeon 8500, as of XFree86 4.2.0
#BusID
Identifier "ATI Radeon 8500"
Driver "radeon"
VendorName "ATI Radeon 8500"
BoardName "ATI Radeon 8500"
Option "nodri"
EndSection

As far as I understand, no DRI support basically means hardware acceleration kaput? Anyone know a way to fix?
