Quicktime 5 support for Xine

Whenever I go to the apple movie trailers, and I try to watch a trailer, xine will pop up and complain that it doesn't support the file format. I have an old .mov and it will play that file. Does anyone know how to get my xine to play those trailers at: http://www.apple.com/trailers/
???

Question 2:

I have xmms with the mp3 plugin. For some odd reason after I watch an avi on xine, I cannot listen to mp3s on xmms I can only listen to them on xine. Or I have to go into xmms and switch the output preferences to OSS plugin and play the song. Anyone know how to solve that problem?

i'm pretty darn sure that it's not possible. quicktime is a closed course codec and so is damn hard to support. and what with Xine being a second rate application at the best of times MPlayer can play *most* quicktime files, if you compile it as the docs instrcut. http://mplayerhq.hu

if you got 15 bucks (american) you can go to www.codeweavers.com/products and get the crossover plugin. I'm actually watching the movie trailers now as I type this at apple. You'll find it's very easy to install and can also windows media player stuff as well. They also have a free trial version. And the installation is a piece of cake.

do_guh_new: I've seen it and I don't feel like shelling out the 15 dollars because:
1. I don't have a credit card to use anymore, nor do I have access to a credit card that someone will lend me for this reason.

2. Why should I pay when I can boot into windows and watch it with Internet Explorer. I just want the convenience and to want to learn how to install goods and configure plugger.

(I do not favour windows, I am neutral about the two OS's, actually I favour Linux more now because the learning curve with linux is superior)

I want to know how to do it with Xanim. Or MPlayer.

hmm I dont have windows to boot into, I didnt wanna pay 3 gazillion dollars to run an OS so I can watch movies you call convienent booting into windows just to watch a 3 minute trailer anyway I never had much luck with plugger (then again I gave up early cause I too wanted some convience) you gotta configure plugger to tell it what app to use for what file extension and mime type etc etc then you gotta get the app working to actually play what you want it to play, ya no thanks. good luck though. Also you might find that xanim plays some quicktime and mplayer plays others which will make it really really hard to configure plugger. And quicktime movies that use the sorenson format will be a hairpulling experience.

well to do it with mplayer, install mplayer after reading the relevant part of their docs.
