Fedora 10 disk setup asks

(1) which drive to install Fedora 10 on...no problem

(2) from which drive will fedora be booted ????

I have 2 drives

sda XP Prof
sdb Fedora 10 (when I get through)

well .... grub installs something on sda

is Fedora 10 booted therefore from sda or sdb?

grub will replace just the boot loader and add an entry in the boot menu so you can boot either Fedora or Windows XP
If you don't want that you can tell the installer to just install grub on sdb.

Your choice of boot loader method will depend on if the sdb drive is either a internal or an external drive. You want grub on the internal sda and then Fedora will boot from that drive, and add in your XP too. If sdb is an external drive, (which may not be connected all the time), then you do not want your grub boot loader installed on that external drive master boot record, but can be installed on each Linux root partition so that you can then chainload to them.

it concerns the installer...I know how grub works

and...I can speculate myself!

The answer depends on what you mean buy "booted". The system starts, control passes to the boot sector on sda, where some very limited grub code locates and boots the kernel stored on sdb.

So, again ... define "boot". Or is this a trick question?

for the second time, it is the Fedora installer asking the question

I agree that it isn't clear. Normally I would answer sdb as the drive you're booting from, but since it already asked for the installation drive then I suppose the "boot" drive they are asking for is sda for the location of grub. Recommend you contact Fedora devs and ask them to make it clearer :)

I am NOT making a point!

I wanted a correct answer...I can guess/speculate!

Turns out the answer is sda and disregard the warning that pops up:

"Do you really want to boot from a drive other than the install drive?"

Whew!

after much work, I have Fedora 10 as it was before the mess and for that matter even better.

Oracle Enterprise 11gR1 is installed perfectly contrary to the beliefs of many

"arrogant know it alls" who believe the docs that it can not be done

Oh ye of little proof! The basic database AND em are working great!

The XP Prof installation of "em" is however faulty and requires some work.

I will say this for Microsoft! Their MS SQL Server managment Studio is great AND the whole mess is free.

Oracle documentation is frequently WRONG or ill advised! A fool could improve their install docs

and methods. Nothing ventured, nothing gained

MySQL had the fastest setup and PHP configuration (minutes instead of days).

While I was posting on this and other forums, I had little boyz screaming that it was impossible.

They have since gone back to their moms, skateboards, PDAs and prescription meds.
