Question about the dd command

Hi there --

I am experimenting with the dd command, and I had a question about the ibs and obs options. Here is the syntax that I was experimenting with in this example:

Code:
dd if=/dev/sda1 ibs=4096 conv=notrunc,noerror |gzip -9 | (ssh 132.183.12.128 dd of=/roarchive/test/roarchivetest.img.gz obs=4096)
Is there any advantage to utilizing either option in the command syntax, and if so, what would be an optimal setting for each?

Hi there --

The reading was interesting, and this was especially the case for the historical perspective. Basically, if I read the article correctly, using the ibs and obs is not necessary for this scenario.

What do you think?

The options may make a big difference between file formats.
