I'm trying to run Quake3 on a Slackware-Current (kernel 18.104.22.168) box but I can't make it work. I've installed ATI drivers for my videocard (ATI Radeon 9200 SE) and I think I've done it the right way. I get about 1600 FPS with glxgears and the OpenGL screensavers work fine. But when I run Quake the logo of ID software appears (movie) and when the game menu has to show, it doesn't. My screen "freezes" and stays like that. But when I move the mouse I can hear the sounds which are played when you move the cursor on a button in the game menu. I've ran quake for several time and every time it's the same. For a couple of times I managed to close quake without killing KDE.
P.S. I've used the "ati-driver-installer-8.20.8-i386.run" to install the drivers. I've also read gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_ATI_Drivers and compiled my kernel the way, discribed in the How-To. I've never had problems with Gentoo. By the way, I've added:
"tmpfs /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0"
to my /etc/fstab and made the drivers work.
When I type fglrxinfo I get:
