Quake 3 , /dev/dsp busy :(
 
i have a riva tnt2 card, yamaha ymf 724 pci runnign on alsa with os drivers, and i run kde . whenver i try to run quake 3 i get
"dev/dsp busy, exiting on signal 11" error ne idea what could be the cause ??

no idea what caused the problem but i had it also
try running quake with
artsdsp -m quake3 (memory mapping)
it worked for me

the problem will be that kde is using the sound server. go kde, such a nice piece of kit. either set quake to use the arts server if possible or i think you might be able to run it via an arts wrapper program, but i couldn't tell you what it's called as i think KDE is the devil incarnate... alteranttively if you try a different light wieght window manager like blackbox then dsp will be availble all the time ideally.

HI thnx artsdsp -m worked .. cheers .. but i got disoriented playing it.. long itme since i played 3d games :D
