QT4 mkspecs unfound on Ubuntu 9.10

Hello,

I've recently installed QT4 on my system and I am having trouble getting it to work, continually getting this error:

Could not find mkspecs for your QMAKESPEC(QTDIR) after trying:
/usr/share/qt4/mkspecs

Having set these environment variables:
export QTDIR=/usr/share/qt/4.6.2
export QMAKESPEC=QTDIR/mkspecs/linux-g++
export PATH=$PATH:$QTDIR/bin

I've looked at a few posts on the subject and haven't been able to come up with a solution. Any ideas?

I reinstalled QT4 according to the instructions found here, so open source 4.6.3. I am trying to execute a simple .pro file, and now the error I get upon typing qmake is

Failure to open file: /.../tetgen_plugin/Makefile
Unable to generate makefile for: /.../tetgen_plugin/tetgen_plugin.pro

I get the same error for any .pro file I try to run. I've been working on this for over a day with and making no progress, I'm at a loss.

Thanks for any help I can get.

Did you try using your package manager to install Qt?

It's probably best you uninstall it and then install it using your package manager (Synaptic or apt-get).

I don't know, in Arch Linux, Qt comes in a single package called "qt" containing everything.

I would suggest you go to Ubuntu Software Center, type "libqt4" in the search bar, and install everything you think you will want from there.

The command : sudo apt-get install libqt4-dev

.. will install the required qt4 packages, version 4.5.x

( Or use 'Synaptic' to install libqt4-dev ).
..
